Vaccination has meant that diseases such as Distemper and Parvo,
historically the biggest causes of death in pet dogs are now rarely
seen.
The need for revaccination, and the risks of vaccination
have been controversial subjects of late, and we review all new
credible evidence to decide what we should offer to our patients.
The evidence suggests there is very little risk
from vaccination, and since there is still a risk from these diseases
we recommend routine vaccination of puppies and annual injections
boosting some or all of the vaccine components as necessary.
The vaccine we use allows pups to have their first
injection at 8 weeks and their second at 10 weeks, earlier than the
traditional twelve weeks. We feel this is beneficial to allow maximum
socialisation during the critical period.
A complete health check is performed at the time of vaccination, which enables us to advise on preventative care and sometimes identify problems before your dog becomes ill.
